The most interesting buildings featuring solutions by ALUPROF will be selected by prominent architects and construction industry representatives The international Building of the Year Created with ALUPROF Systems competition opened for entries on 6th May. Its goal is to identify the most compelling developments created using systems by the market leader in aluminium architectural systems. In what has now become a tradition, the jury will be made up of distinguished architects, with the proceedings chaired by Przemo Łukasik of Medusa Group, itself a winner of several awards in earlier competitions. He and the other outstanding architects will be singling out the best developments featuring solutions by ALUPROF.

The well-known and respected architects and construction industry representatives making up the 2024 jury are Maciej Franta, Karol Fiedor, Bożenna Wawrzyniak-Mańko, Elżbieta Dziubak and Zbigniew Poraj. Chairing their deliberations will be Przemo Łukasik, co-founder of the acclaimed Medusa Group architectural studio. The studio’s work includes landmark projects like the .KTW office complex in Katowice, winner of accolades like the SARP (Association of Polish Architects) 2022 Office, Education or Administration Building award, Hotel Nobu Warsaw, recipient of no less than three World Luxury Hotel Awards in 2023, and Poznań’s New Market. .KTW and Hotel Nobu Warsaw were both award winners in previous Building of the Year Created with ALUPROF Systems competitions. The former took second place in 2018 and the latter was the runner-up in 2022, when .KTW 2 was shortlisted in the top ten.

Representing the voice of the new generation of designers will be Mr. Maciej Franta. A winner of the prestigious Europe 40 Under 40® Best Emerging Young Architects & Designers programme, he is recognised first and foremost for his innovate and socially sensitive residential, public and commercial building designs. One of his most applauded achievements is Villa Reden in Chorzów, which has garnered a list of accolades that includes Best Project 2022, awarded by the editors of the Archilovers.com portal; it was the only building in Poland to be selected in that category. It was also a prize winner in the Excellent Architecture category of the German Design Awards organised by the German Design Council and received a nomination for the title of the “ArchDaily” architectural magazine’s Building of the Year 2022 award.

Another of the jury members judging this year’s competition entries will be Karol Fiedor, founder of Poznań-based design studio CDF Architekci and a member of the Council of the Polish Chamber of Architects. In 2015, his studio’s design of the UBIQ Business Park in Poznań won the SARP Award of the Year 2015 in the Special Building category for a building constructed in a conservation area.

Bożenna Wawrzyniak-Mańko of Dusseldorf-based RKW Architektur+ will be taking a seat on the jury. RKW’s portfolio includes not only notable designs like Polsat Plus Arena Gdańsk, but also the urban-architectural development of the northern tip of Granary Island in Gdańsk.

Elżbieta Dziubak, Architect General for ALUPROF SA, will also be joining the judges, as will Zbigniew Poraj, an independent expert with many years of experience in advising the boards of Poland’s largest construction industry companies.

In 2022, there were more than 200 of them. Many of them are true gems of contemporary architecture that are not only breathtaking in their design and functionality, but are also winners of important international awards. At the same time, it’s worth stressing that they’re often designs by renowned architectural practices like Maćków Pracownia Projektowa, Medusa Group, Kuryłowicz & Associates and AMC - Andrzej M. Chołdzyński.
