On 9th September 2016 winners of the "Building of the year created with Aluprof systems" architectural competition were announced! The first prize of PLN 50,000 has been awarded to JEMS Architekci for the Royal Wilanów building. The winner and two honourable mentions were announced during ceremonial Gala at Hotel Warszawianka in Jachranka near Warsaw. The main attraction of the official celebration was celebrity of the evening - Natasza Urbańska and Buffo Theatre. The Gala was preceded by the 1st International Conference – "Aluminium systems in architecture of cities of the future".

The "Building of the year created with Aluprof systems" competition was directed to architectural firms or independent architects who employed solutions designed by ALUPROF, the leading European distributor of aluminium systems. The aim of the poll was to promote modern architecture and initiate panel discussion about current trends in architectural designs and realizations. The candidates were selected in three stages. Initially the organizers selected 50 projects. Then they scrutinized each to narrow down to only 10 for the final. Finally, the jury designated three best structures.

During the Gala, the candidates were announced and also the eventual winners of the competition celebrated. And so the award for the first place and the financial bonus of PLN 50,000 went to the Royal Wilanów building designed at JEMS Architekci studio. The second and third prize of PLN 30,000 and PLN 15,000 respectively went to X2 Boutique Office designed by Polish-Belgian Architectural Studio and to Quattro Business Park Five by Kuryłowicz&Associates. Designation of the winner was preceded by an in-depth assessment of numerous aspects: mainly of the way aluminium systems by ALUPROF were used in particular structure. We hope that the competition will broaden the knowledge about functionality of aluminium systems in construction industry – says Bożena Ryszka, Marketing Manager at ALUPROF.

Taking into consideration high quality of submitted designs, the chapter decided to increase the number of works that would be qualified for the second stage and awarded honourable mention to as many as 10 structures, including: ICE Kraków Congress Centre, Centre for Innovation and Technology Transfer Management at Warsaw University of Technology, Dominikański in Wrocław, Ericpol Software Pool in Łódź, Puro Hotel in Poznań, The International Conference Centre in Katowice, Nowy Świat 2.0. in Warsaw, Proximo in Warsaw, Wilanów Town Hall, UBIQ 34 in Poznań and Vectra in Gdynia.

The award of Internet users went to Quattro Business Park Five by Kuryłowicz&Associates.

Special honourable mention was also awarded to the structure erected abroad – Lexington Avenue in New York, USA.

The Gala was preceded by the 1st International Conference – "Aluminium systems in architecture of cities of the future". It is the most prestigious event directed to architects and its agenda covered all current and important issues in the industry. The discussion was attended by both, representatives of universities and recognized practitioners – representatives of renowned architectural firms and international authorities in the field of architecture. The conference acted as a bridge that enabled transfer of experience and knowledge between architects, which may result in new trends in designing modern buildings.
