‘Building of the Year Created with Aluprof Systems’ 2024: Celebrating Outstanding Architectural Achievements
On 16th October, the winners of the fifth edition of the prestigious ‘Building of the Year Created with Aluprof Systems’ competition were revealed at a grand gala in Warsaw. The competition, which honours the finest architectural projects built using Aluprof’s advanced aluminium systems, attracted nearly 230 entries from across Poland and the world. After careful deliberation, the expert jury selected the most outstanding buildings in modern architecture. In the main category, the top spots were awarded to Bernardyńska 4 in Wrocław, Lakeside in Warsaw, and the LPP Fashion Lab in Gdańsk.
Bernardyńska 4: The Best Building Created with Aluprof Systems
This year’s final event took place at the DoubleTree by Hilton in Warsaw, with Marcin Prokop as host. The gala followed the ‘Future Builders’ conference, which explored the future of architecture with a focus on sustainable construction practices.
First prize, with a cash award of PLN 50,000, went to Bernardyńska 4 in Wrocław, designed by Maćków Pracownia Projektowa. This is the second time the studio has taken the top prize—their Green2Day building also won in 2018. Second place and PLN 30,000 went to Grupa 5 Architekci for their Lakeside project in Warsaw, while the JEMS Architekci team took third place and PLN 15,000 for the LPP Fashion Lab in Gdańsk.
The remaining top ten buildings included Brain Park in Kraków, Diament Plaza Hotel in Katowice, Prime Construction Headquarters in Szczecin, the STOS Competence Centre at Gdańsk University of Technology, the OKO Interactive Fairy Tale and Animation Centre in Bielsko-Biała, the Public Services Centre in Opole, and Montownia in Gdańsk.
International and Residential Projects Win Recognition
– ‘Designing the buildings of the future is a significant challenge, requiring a perfect balance between efficiency, functionality, and aesthetics. Our competition recognises those creators who excel at maintaining this balance, especially as standards become more stringent and market expectations rise,’ says Tomasz Grela, CEO of Aluprof.
Reflecting the global nature of the competition, awards were also presented to the best international projects. First place in this category went to TOWER 15, a Portuguese apartment building designed by ARCHITEKTURA ODDA. Second place was awarded to Chybík + Krištof Architects for their Mendelův Skleník project in Brno, Czech Republic, while third place went to the 68-86 Farringdon Road complex in London, designed by Sheppard Robson Architects.
In the ‘Single-Family Homes’ category, the top prize went to the LittleMountainHouse in Wrocław, designed by GREG. Architekci. The popular vote also played a role, with internet users selecting Wiśniowski’s new headquarters, designed by LOESCH+PARTNERS, as their favourite.
Roto, a long-standing partner of Aluprof and a manufacturer of building hardware, presented its award in the Green Future category to the Waterfront II development in Gdynia, with the accolade going to Eljako-Al. The award was presented by Joanna Skalbaniok, President of Roto's Board.
Green Future: Contemporary Challenges in Architecture
Climate change, the shift towards zero-carbon solutions, and the need for improved energy efficiency are challenges that all new architectural projects must address. Recognising these demands, the ‘Green Future’ category was introduced for the first time in the history of the competition. The award in this category went to Cavatina Group, alongside the ‘Fair Play’ Partner award, where statuettes were presented to Euro Styl, White Star Real Estate, and Krishome. The honorary guest for this segment was international football referee and Aluprof brand ambassador, Szymon Marciniak, who is also the face of the ‘Control the Climate, Control the Costs’ campaign.
‘We wanted to shine a spotlight on socially responsible projects that embody both modern construction principles and sustainable development. With urbanisation progressing rapidly, it’s essential to recognise solutions that are both innovative and environmentally friendly, and we're seeing more and more of them. This trend is reflected in the increasing number of certified buildings submitted to each edition of the competition, ’ concluded Tomasz Grela.
