Last Friday, at the Final Gala of the competition for architects ”Building of the Year in Aluprof systems”, the attendees had a chance to see the most interesting, recent buildings that make up, so to say, the contemporary canon of jewels of the Polish architecture. Awards were given to the authors of the three best projects. And so it was: tears of emotion, a great joy and a moment of glory on the stage with an enthusiastic applause of the audience.

The spectacular Final Gala of the architectural competition ”Building of the Year in Aluprof systems” was held on 26th September at the Hotel Warszawianka Wellness & Spa in Warsaw. The corridor leading to the banquet hall was decorated not only with some breathtaking images of the already completed projects, submitted for the competition, but also with some outstanding photographs of buildings from all over the world, whose design is based on aluminium systems.

The major highlight of the ceremony was the announcement of the results for which the industry awaited for a long time. Winning buildings were selected by a respectable jury: Elżbieta Dziubak – Aluprof S.A. General Architect, Ryszard Jurkowski – architect at AIR Jurkowscy-Architekci Sp. z o.o., Zbigniew Reszka – architect at Arch-Deco Sp. z o.o., Dariusz Hyc – representative of the SARP, Danuta Burzyńska – Editor in Chief of ”The Builder” magazine. – The awarded architectural structures are not only perfectly made, but also show the artistry of their creators. This competition has made perfectly clear that Poland is heading in the right direction – native buildings, based on the Polish technical approach are indeed comparable with buildings from all over the world. We had this in mind while creating once our innovative aluminium systems – said Tomasz Grela, Aluprof S.A. Board President.

The main cash prize – PLN 50,000 – was given to Mr. Andrzej Chołdzyński’s AMC Design Office that created the Warsaw’s unique office structure – Ambassador Office Building Warsaw. – The success of an architectural feature consists of many factors. For us, as architects, public perception is extremely important. We just had this vision and greatly hoped that the Ambassador Office Building would get a high place and this is exaclty what happened – said, with satisfaction in his voice, architect Artur Chołdzyński, who was awarded with the statuette for the most beautiful ”Building of the Year in Aluprof systems”.

Right behind him, in second place, another Warsaw project was awarded – the office building at ul. Kruczkowskiego 2, designed by the team Kuryłowicz & Associates. The third place went to Thespian, the apartment building located in Wrocław and designed by the Maćków Design Office. In addition, Internet users decided to award the PGE Arena stadium designed by the RKW RKW Architektur + Städtebau. All projects submitted to the competition were remarkable, not only in terms of aesthetics, but also in terms of quality, as they were created using modern solutions – Aluprof aluminium systems.

After the announcement of the results, a representative of the jury – Ryszard Jurkowski explained the selection criteria for the winners. – The basic principle of selection of the winning architectural design was the creative use of aluminium systems, the use of which has contributed to the particular aesthetic of the building.

The Gala was led by a charismatic Polish TV presenter – Marcin Prokop. The event was held in a sophisticated setting. The banquet hall was filled to the brim with well-known personalities from the architecture and construction industry. The importance of this event was also highlighted by the presence of prominent representatives of Polish institutions, associations and agencies, such as Provincial Governor Office in Warsaw, SARP and the National Chamber of City Planners. There were also representatives of the organizer and the media.

The culmination of the ceremony was a private recital by one of the most famous and talented native stars – Kayah, who presented her warm congratulations to the winners. In such an atmosphere, and late into the night, exciting conversations behind the scenes about the future of Polish urban architecture, challenges and upcoming trends were held.
