Passive House

Looking to make your home more energy efficient?

Aluprof is Passive House certified.

You may have heard of Passive House, which is a building standard that originated in Germany but has been adopted by many countries around the world including the UK.

A home designed to meet the Passive House standard will have a lower carbon footprint while still maintaining a beautiful design and comfortable living space.

Let’s explore the details of homes that meet the Passive House standard:

What are the key features of the Passive House standard?

Homes designed to meet the standard include five key features:

1. Insulation
High-quality insulated products are used throughout the home to minimise heat loss. Homes stay warm and comfortable in the winter and cool in the summer.
2. Airtight
The entire building is designed to be air tight with no uncontrolled air flows between the inside and outside of your home, minimising heat loss.
3. No thermal bridging
This means that all areas of the home are well insulated and can maintain a comfortable temperature in the summer and winter
4. High-performing windows
A passive house will have window frames that are designed to minimise heat loss, with insulation and often with triple glazing.
5. Mechanical ventilation with heat recovery
This means that fresh air is introduced and stale air is extracted from your home through a ventilation system.

What are the benefits of meeting the Passive House standard with your home?

The approach is growing in popularity across the UK because of the benefits that it offers:

Energy bill reduction
With so many features incorporated to reduce heat loss and increase thermal performance, homes that meet the standard require significantly less energy to heat and cool. This leads to lower energy bills in the longer term, whilst keeping your home at a comfortable temperature all year round.
Sustainability
Homes that meet the Passive House standard have lower carbon footprints and contribute to the UK’s mission to reduce greenhouse gases. This also makes the property attractive for eco-conscious buyers if you are planning to sell in the future.
Comfort
The five features of the Passive House standard mean that your home is kept at a comfortable temperature, with a consistent supply of fresh air and no unwanted drafts.
Protection
High-performing, durable products and materials used to meet the standard keep your home protected from the elements for years to come with minimal maintenance.
