Built to Withstand Hurricanes: Introducing the ALUPROF MB-37 Slide Storm
ALUPROF proudly presents the MB-37 Slide Storm, a cutting-edge sliding patio and balcony door system engineered specifically for markets where large expanses of glass need to endure the extreme pressures of hurricane-force winds. This system is tailored for the U.S. market, meeting the rigorous standards required for hurricane-prone regions.
TheMB-37 Slide Storm delivers not only in terms of strength but also in style. Its sleek, modern design is complemented by its affordability, making it a popular choice for clients who demand high performance in extreme weather conditions without compromising on aesthetics or ease of use. The door features a panel depth of 37 mm and a frame depth of 100 mm, with reinforced sections for added durability. It can accommodate openings up to 3200 mm wide and 3000 mm high, with a door leaf weight of up to 160 kg, and supports glazing between 14 and 19 mm. Given that hurricanes develop over warm waters, the system is designed as a cold structure without thermal breaks.
The MB-37 Slide Storm meets the stringent requirements of ASTM International and Florida Building Code standards TAS 201-94, TAS 202-94, and TAS 203, making it ideal for use in Florida and other regions where enhanced hurricane protection is critical. Independent testing by Molimo, a U.S.-based accredited laboratory, confirmed that the system is suitable for use in high-risk hurricane zones, including Zone 4, where wind speeds can exceed 170 mph (274 km/h).
This system isn’t just designed to withstand high winds; it’s built to protect against flying debris and other projectiles during a storm. The MB-37 Slide Storm plays a vital role in safeguarding both lives and property. Rigorous tests have shown that even when the system’s profiles and glazing sustain severe damage, the doors maintain their air- and watertight integrity. However, for the system to meet the most demanding safety standards, it must be installed with two 6 mm TVG glass panes laminated with 2.28 mm PVB film or 3 x 0.76 mm SentryGlas Plus film.
Additionally, the MB-37 Slide Storm simplifies production for manufacturers. The system is designed for easy prefabrication, eliminating the need for complex mechanical processing. It can be used to fabricate A, D, K, and C design configurations with speed and efficiency.
