Aluminium façades – technical marvel or contemporary standard?

Aluminium façades are one of the most distinctive elements in modern construction. They are used in many different buildings, such as office buildings, shopping centres, railway stations, university buildings and public offices. In this article, we explain why aluminium façades are so popular and what the benefits are of using them.

Aluminium façades in architectural solutions

Aluminium façades are used in many projects around the world and serve a very important function. Apart from protecting the interior from adverse weather conditions, they are also a decorative element, giving the entire structure a light appearance and keeping it in a modern style. They also provide appropriate lighting, thus creating a comfortable working environment for the people in the building.

That’s not all. They also have the added function of reducing the operating costs of the entire building. How do they achieve this?

Features of aluminium façades

Aluminium façades are a very attractive architectural solution. One of their most important advantages is their ability to illuminate interiors. By using a larger area of glazing and much narrower frames, aluminium façades allow natural light to enter the building, which improves the working and living comfort inside. This not only saves energy, but also improves the wellbeing of the building’s occupants.

Another important feature is their designer appearance. Aluminium façades give buildings an elegant and modern appearance. Thanks to their adaptability to different building shapes and the possibility to paint aluminium frames in any colour, architects can create unique designs that stand out from other buildings or fit in with the style of the surrounding architecture.

A third important advantage is the lightweight construction of aluminium façades. Aluminium is a very lightweight material, which facilitates the installation of the façade and reduces the load on the building structure. This also impacts the construction and maintenance costs. Adding to this the high resistance to weather conditions, we can safely assume that aluminium façades are the perfect architectural solution for buildings that are to serve us for decades.

Cost benefits of aluminium façades

Aluminium façades not only improve the aesthetics and functionality of buildings, but also offer specific economic benefits. Their good thermal insulation makes it possible to reduce the building’s operating costs, especially in winter and summer, when the demand for heating or cooling is much higher. This is because with the right insulation system, we have the possibility of effectively isolating the interior from the conditions outside. As a result, even in the hottest months, the high temperature cannot heat the façade to such an extent that the heat affects the temperature in the rooms. And vice versa – during the cold months, there is no problem with the interiors cooling down by heat being given off from the outside of the façade.

The large glazed area of aluminium façades is linked to another financial aspect, namely adequate interior lighting. In modern zero-emission construction, they are recommended for those parts of the building that face the sunniest side. This means that these rooms do not need additional light during the day. This lowers electricity bills, which in turn significantly reduces the building’s operating costs.

Proper acoustic insulation is another aspect that affects the comfort of working and living in a building. Aluminium façades effectively reduce external noise, which is especially important in places with heavy traffic. The use of façades in public buildings located in city centres ensures high working comfort without the need for additional, costly interior soundproofing.

Is it worth investing in a façade system?

Aluminium façades are not only an expression of modernity and aesthetics, but also a functional solution that improves living and working comfort in buildings. Their ability to illuminate interiors, their thermal and acoustic insulation and lightweight construction make them indispensable in many areas of architecture. There is a reason why they have become a contemporary standard that benefits both users and building owners.
