A smart home – which solutions to choose?

chevron-up
DO GÓRY
Smart home technologies allow us to have remote control over numerous home appliances and systems. Smart technologies provide not only comfort, but also safety. When fitted with modern and smart accessories, windows, doors, and roller blinds provide both of these benefits. Here are the most interesting ones – see which solutions will suit your home!

What is a smart home?

A smart home is an integrated system that allows you to control appliances and systems in a building that are permanently connected to the Internet. This is possible because they are fitted with smart solutions, including various types of controllers, drives, sensors, and other electronic accessories.

The user is able to automate the operation of individual home appliances (for example, by preparing a schedule for switching on and off individual features) and, at the same time, control them manually as needed. Everything is managed by remote control from an easy-to-use mobile application.

A smart home system offers multiple benefits, including, most importantly, the following:

  • easier use of home appliances and systems;

  • improved security, for instance, by connecting smart door locks to an alarm system;

  • energy savings – an automated system can autonomously control various things such as lighting, turning it off when not needed, and the heating system, controlling the temperature in the house;

  • increased property value – investing in smart home technologies can add to the value of your house or apartment, which is a benefit when selling your property.

Smart windows

With the rapid development of technology, more and more smart devices are appearing on the market. Some of the most interesting smart technologies recommended for windows include the following:

  • automatic control of window sash tilting and closing – it allows you to ventilate the house at any time (for instance, while you are at work), and also to have windows opened and closed depending on a specific temperature inside or outside;

  • active windowpanes – you can control their transparency and the amount of sunlight entering the interior;

  • safety-enhancing sensors to detect glass breakage and automatically lock windows in the event a threat is detected (for instance, in combination with motion detectors).

Smart doors

The entry door can also become part of a smart home system. We have already mentioned one of the extra accessories designed for this – a remotely controlled smart lock. The user can lock it when outside the house. They can also open it to let in a guest waiting outside the house when the hosts are stuck in traffic, for instance. As with windows, it is possible to connect the door to an alarm system; the lock will be bolted as soon as a threat is detected.

This is another piece of evidence that smart solutions can create both a comfortable and highly secure home. Significantly, you can secure your smart door even more effectively by installing, for instance, the following:

  • motion detectors,

  • opening sensors,

  • video cameras – remote access to image viewing allows, for instance, to have a quick look at who is outside the house.

Smart roller blinds

You can also incorporate external electric roller blinds into your smart home system. This way, you will be able to uncover and cover your windows from anywhere, whether you are inside or outside the building. This is a major convenience and boosts security at the same time. If you leave the house for a long time and forget to close the door, you can do it remotely from the app on your phone, with no need to go back and waste time and, above all, with no unnecessary stress.

Another benefit is that you can schedule the operation of your roller blinds. All you need to do is create a schedule in the app, and the roller blinds will automatically go down and up at the selected times. Whenever the need arises, you can prepare a separate schedule for each day of the week.

It is also recommended to combine smart roller blinds with the alarm system installed in your house. By doing so, you will improve your safety and that of all your household members. When the alarm goes off, the windows will be automatically covered and secured.

Notably, your smart home system may be also integrated with electric interior blinds: textile blinds, screens, and roller-screens!

Other smart home solutions

You can have smart control of the following:

  • lightning;

  • audio and video appliances, such as home theater, television, and audio equipment;

  • home appliances, such as a washing machine, dishwasher, or refrigerator;

  • cameras and a surveillance system.
