DO GÓRY
If you want to feel safe in your home, have windows and doors fitted with high-performance anti-burglary systems. This goes for all joinery – not just windows and entrance doors. If you have terrace or balcony doors, they too should be designed to resist forced entry. Invest in anti-burglary systems to make sure that both you and the rest of your household can stay relaxed. Check out how to protect your home from burglars!

As rp.pl reports, there were 57,000 burglaries in 2024 alone. Although this crime affects mainly larger cities, residents of villages or smaller towns obviously also experience this type of incidents. Little wonder that we decide to take care of ourselves, our loved ones and our own property by choosing alarm or CCTV systems. While this is a prudent decision, it is important to note one more thing: burglar-proof doors – both the main entrance door and the balcony or terrace door.

How can you tell if entrance, terrace and balcony doors are burglar-proof?

For a door to offer above-average forced entry resistance, it must be manufactured according to EN 1627:2012. Whether a burglar-proof door complies with the standard is indicated by the RC class – this is what you need to pay special attention to when choosing this product.

It is divided into 6 levels: from RC1 to RC6. How should I interpret this type of marking? To put it simply: the higher the number, the more effective the burglar protection.

Houses usually have RC1 to RC3 class doors. Doors with higher classes are intended mainly for buildings that require extra protection, such as those used by public institutions, banks, etc. Obviously, this does not mean that they cannot be used in private houses.

What features define RC1–RC3 burglar-proof doors?

The effectiveness of forced entry protection is determined mainly by the fittings used in the structure. These are some of the elements that Aluprof’s burglar-proof terrace doors, balcony doors and entrance doors are fitted with:

  • solid bolts designed to minimize the risk of breakage;
  • multi-point locks with several bolts;
  • reinforced locking mechanisms.

They are usually sold in RC1 to RC3-rated versions. The first of these indicates resistance to forced entry without the use of tools. RC2 models are able to resist forced entry attempts with the use of a simple item (such as a hammer or wedge) for a minimum of 3 minutes. RC3, in turn, stands for resistance to professional tools used by burglars, such as a crowbar or drill. They resist them for a minimum of 5 minutes, enough time to scare off a burglar or give the alarm system a chance to respond.

Notably, some of our products are also available in RC4 class, such as MB-86N systems. RC4 windows and doors are resistant to break-ins using tools such as saws, chisels, hammers, screwdrivers and even hatchets or portable drills. RC4 products must be able to withstand at least 10 minutes of forced entry attempts with power tools.

RC4 products are recommended for:

  • houses in isolated areas;
  • residences with valuables;
  • sites that are more vulnerable to break-in.

Door glazing in P6B–P8B class: the highest level of protection!

Since terrace and balcony, and sometimes entrance, doors have large glazing, they should also comply with rigorous standards for burglary protection in this respect. For these, the classification related to this feature is introduced by PN-EN 356:2000 – classes from P1A to P5A and from P6B to P8B. These classes indicate the resistance of the glass to attempted forced entry with various tools. Glass from the second group of classes is the most robust, so it will make a reasonable choice.

Aluprof solutions feature glazing with a minimum P6B class. These are multi-layer panes made of tempered glass. Extra protection is provided by special PVB (vinyl polymer) films.

For instance, our RC3 burglar-proof balcony or terrace doors combined with such glazing guarantee the highest level of security. According to PN-EN 356:2000, P6B glass is as effective as windows with 12mm grating. It can withstand the impact of even such heavy tools as a hammer and an axe. With higher classes (P7B and P8B), the glass performs as well as if secured with grating made of bars as large as 16 mm in diameter.

Burglar-proof roller shutters will make your home even more secure

Both balcony and terrace doors should be further secured with external burglar-proof roller shutters. When lowered, roller shutters enhance the level of protection of your building. You will find these solutions in our range as well! You can choose one of two types: SAFETY PLUS and SAFETY PREMIUM, which meet the standards of RC2 and RC3 burglar resistance class, respectively. The roller shutters are made of robust aluminum and designed to make it as difficult as possible to lift the curtain by force.

Why should you invest in a high-end terrace and balcony burglar-proof door?

High-end burglar-proof balcony and terrace doors bring many benefits. These are the most important ones:

  • improved safety for home occupants and protection of property inside the building;
  • improved energy efficiency of the house – one feature of any burglar-proof door is its excellent airtightness;
  • cheaper home insurance – many insurers offer attractive insurance discounts if the building has high-end burglar-proof doors and windows.
