Ribbon Skylights at Galeria Katowice.

The installation of the ribbon skylights at Galeria Katowice has come to an end. The MB-SR60N roof solution from Aluprof has been specially designed for the purpose of this project. The solution consists of use of 60 mm wide aluminum profiles of an appropriate resistance to allow the maximum amount of light to penetrate into the interior of the building. This brings great opportunities for shaping spatial structures – thanks to the set of glazing beads, it is possible to make angled joints within a range from 0 to 20°, which allows the use of glass in different shapes, such as trapezoidal and triangular. The installation of the infill can be performed using a continuous or punctual fixing of the glass pane, obtaining a 24mm slot pitch.

The structure at Galeria Katowice comes equipped with a reliable system of drainage and ventilation, whilst also being extremely tight, thanks to the use of the EPDM seals, gluing its joins and sealing up glass panes with silicone grout.

In its classification, issued for the MB-SR60N roof system, the Building Research Institute has confirmed these very good technical parameters of the MB-SR60N roof system:

air permeability: AE class, 1200 Pa

water tightness: RE class, 1200 Pa

wind load resistance: 2800 Pa (safety testing 4200 Pa)

This system has also been successfully tested for clamping and pull-off loads and impact resistance.

Galeria Katowice's glazed roof is built using steel substructure and is in itself an interesting architectural design, as you can see for yourself (photos).
